Running for local elected office can be an exhausting, expensive, and on the sidewalks in the prelude to Texas Summer, extremely sweaty endeavor. It was also, in every regard, an experience most worthwhile.
I campaigned to win, but in defeat I savor many fine victories. I was granted the public stage to speak my mind on issues which I find to be of high importance. I earned invaluable experience - only at the end does one begin to understand how to organize such an effort. To have received the nomination of almost 500 fellow citizens is by any accounting a high honor, and I am very grateful. Finally, I made friends and met allies of education across the district, whose paths I might otherwise never have crossed. First on this list are the two honorable, gracious and intelligent women with whom (I won't say against) I ran in parallel for the post of school board Trustee.
Carol Barrett has fairly won the rightly deserved support of our district, and I too support her without reservation. I have every confidence that she will fulfill the highest expectations of leadership in this exciting time of growth for the College Station ISD.
